Who is "we?" The AEW audience has made it clear with Cody they are a vocal minority. This is not a new phenomenon, Mick Foley got laughed out of ECW and it's been retconned now that it was all a big work. Right. ECW fans booed Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, the two guys they would fellate less than a decade later. You can say those are younger talents and that is why they were booed so earlier on in their careers, but then look at Hogan in WCW and how that turned out. The fans are fickle.

He booked himself at the beginning of AEW and it was kino. Tony, by his own words, took over complete control during the pandemic, and as stated countless times, Tony did and continues to redo the same booking Cody had during that time, to this day. So either Tony is a liar, or it's a big coincidence that he redid the exact same angles the same way for years afterwards.

He was last really good in 2022 when he slimmed down and stopped drinking after his lungs collapsed on him. Now he's 55 with more mileage on his body. But WWE isn't exactly a hard style so we'll see how it goes. He was my favorite even back in 2000.

In retrospect, and without console warring, I feel like Jericho if anything, was "misused" in AEW, I understand using the biggest star you have constantly, that is totally normal, but it's the choice of who you make him work with that actually matters, he has lost to literal nobodies (and still nobodies but with a win over Jericho) like Action Andretti, it sure did wonders for his career, he made you at least know who Bryan Keith is for like 3 or 4 months. If anyone to blame for Jericho being "bad" or "shoved down our throat" it's Tony, it's not like Jericho was booking himself.

Like, what’s the Jericho storyline? What’s his angle? Who’s he feuding with? Where does he fit? Why is he back (in-universe), and how long can that story last?

Is there anyone on the current roster they could build an “unfinished business” story around?

Jericho was great for the first couple of years and an essential part of the show
When Cody left, the “Codyverse” became the “Jericho Vortex” and his feuds just dragged on too long and his factions just caused everyone in them to go stagnant. The crowd was begging for the Big Bill face turn where he kicked Jericho’s head off and it never happened.

At the very least, Jericho deserved some kind of true send-off if he was leaving. It’s weird for the company’s world champion to just quietly leave with an awkward promo months ago where he says he’s taking a break and he wants his henchmen tag team to have gold when he comes back or else.

It will just be Cena retirement tour part 2. Give a date of his final match, rerun some of his past feuds like Owens, clash with AJ as their retirements cross streams, have some dream matches he never had, get a title run somewhere so he’s forced to have a match with Logan Paul before dropping the belt to Dom or another youngster, and then a tournament at the end to decide who retires him.

Jericho's biggest mistake is that he never took a break. Jericho always remained relevant by leaving when his run had gotten stale, recharging and coming back with something new and refreshing. He never did that in AEW which is why people got sick of him.

I’m looking at everything through the lens of Netflix/ESPN/Saudi money and all the NEW eyeballs they’re trying to attract to the company. Does adding a Chris Jericho retirement storyline bring NEW fans to the programming?

Call me skeptical, lol.

At best, it’s fan service nostalgia for existing older viewers who actually remember Jericho…which doesn’t seem to be a priority for the WWE growth and expansion model. Plus, if you want to do a fan service farewell tour with an old guy, you’ve already got AJ Styles lined up for that in 2026. You don’t need Jericho unless you want him to feud with AJ, I guess, in a “loser retires” match at WM, lol.
