>>19608853>isolationist stanceAmerica should be “isolationist” when it doesn’t directly involve us.
- Israel Palestine doesn’t
- Iran doesn’t
- Russia Ukraine doesn’t
- India Pakistan doesn’t
- Afghanistan doesn’t (anymore)
War hawks for decades have been strettttching to persuade Americans that these conflicts DO involve us, but most Americans stopped buying it.
But I think the idea behind this whole Venezuelan thing is that it DOES directly involve us because of all the fucking drugs the cartels are bringing into the country right now (and for decades).
Russia gaining ground in Ukraine doesn’t impact the average American. Drug cartels flooding your neighborhood with homeless addicts does.
You can scoff at that rationale, I guess. But that’s what makes it different (and not hypocritical) from any of the other recent examples.
Isolationism isn’t ALWAYS noble, brother. American foreign policy isn’t “stay out of everything always.” It’s “stay out of shit that doesn’t involve us.” Well, this Venezuelan drug cartel shit involves us.
That said, a midnight raid abducting their sitting president and his wife is pretty spicy booking kek.
