Controversial Former WWE Star Suddenly Mentioned On SmackDown

No.19609421 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
>In a surprising move, a controversial former WWE star’s name was mentioned on SmackDown.

>Ever since Triple H took over, commentators have been given a little more freedom during their announcements. Under the new regime, we have seen the announcers name-drop other promotions such as New Japan or even make references to stars’ older gimmicks.

>One such reference was suddenly dropped during tonight’s episode of SmackDown when Michael Cole mentioned a controversial star’s name, much to everyone’s surprise, that being Ryback.

>On tonight’s episode of SmackDown, Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes had a confrontation that saw The Scottish Warrior burn a sentimental photo of The American Nightmare and his father, Dusty Rhodes. Along with that, McIntyre had also laid out the three stipulations for their Three Stages of Hell match that takes place next week on SmackDown in Berlin.

>Also in the main event, Damian Priest took on Aleister Black in an Ambulance match. While Priest was making his way to the ring, Michael Cole mentioned that the final stipulation during the Three Stages of Hell match between John Cena and Ryback at Payback 2013 was an Ambulance match.

>This was the first time in years that Ryback’s name has been mentioned. The former Intercontinental Champion departed from the WWE in August 2016, citing unequal wages and contract disagreements as the reason for his exit. He then wrestled on the independent scene from 2016-18 and has not stepped into the squared circle ever since.

>What makes the mention of Ryback’s name surprising is that they chose to do it, being well aware of the many unhinged rants he has been making about the Stamford-based promotion and personnel involved in it. Though this cannot be taken as a sign of The Big Guy making a return to the WWE, it is good to know that they are willing to accept certain undeniable aspects of their history.
