It was a good match. I didn't think there was a ton of story or great logic to it and thought it was similar to other matches they had. Tana retiring of course added to this but they didn't play that up as much as they could (Okada could have been yelling at him to quit and they could have done a lot of teasing that Tana would tap out). It wasn't the best match they could have had, so I wouldn't give it a 5 star rating.

I refuse to argue with retards online because Meltzer baited with his nonsense. It was a great match entertainment wise once it got going, especially due to knowing the limitations of Tanahashi yet seeing him push it so hard one last time, and it had some good false finishes and will mean a lot to Tanahashi fans but arguing that it is one of the 3 or 4 best matches ever in a subjective way is ridiculous although if you are a huge Tana fan then all the power to you. Making a man, who actually did the work, and his retirement all about engagement baiting is just sad.

I think this match just meant a lot to Dave as a big fan of Tanahashi, and it was six stars to him. I wouldn't say I loved it that much, but I'm a newer wrestling fan and I don't have the attachment to this era of New Japan that Dave has. I really loved the match and thought it was a worthy end to his career, even though I hate AEW and kind of resent that this is the way it had to be.

It wasn't an excellent match though. Okada's well past his prime and Tanahashi could barely move. The whole match was basic "I hit you with moves, now you hit me with moves" paint by numbers shit and the only story it told was "Okada's a dick and Tanahashi's too old".
