Charlotte needed to lose and rebuild her confidence while Asuka remained undefeated. Like Cena v Rock 1-2, but good hopefully. Or kind of like what they did with Cody losing at 39 and then finally overcoming Roman, but with an actual story during that year.
The main problem with this is that it requires writers who aren't shit. So Charlotte wins and moves on like nothing, now Asuka isn't undefeated so she can lose to Carmella ok smackdown without getting Carmella over at all. WWE: Everyone loses and no one cares
