Take in to account that a lot of the AEW guys are in to the NJPW and Bret Hart style, so what exactly are guys like Phil, Mark Henry, Regal, Beeg and Scotty 2 Hotty going to tell them about how to wrestle? If they had Bret in the back they'd be listening. Phil's was just upset that his "storied career" of being the face of a secondary show in WWE for a year or so isn't looked back on as fondly as Danielson's time there, and Danielson still proved he could go in AEW.
There's a reason the locker room was going to Kenny, Danielson and Mox over Punk, Henry and Regal.
