Great storytelling. Cody, the moral babyface, puts a stop to the interference. He could've sat back and let his opponent get destroyed, then take the easy pickings and win the match. Instead, to his own detriment, he intervenes and he himself is attacked.
In the meantime, the heel, not willing to return the favor and do the same noble act for his opponent, weasels his way out of the ring and steals the championship.
