Meltzer essentially invented modern wrestling in terms of what's considered good.
You can go back and read the rspw archives (or even things like the weinerboard) to see that Meltzer used to be treated by smarks as an odd weirdo with a totally different idea on whats good to most people. People used to correlate the quality of a match with the crowd reaction, very generally speaking.
Now a lot of wrestling fans essentially consider Meltzers taste for move variety, pace and low selling as "good" but its still not what the wider wrestling audience care about.
AEW has an audience and will always have an audience, but it will never be as big as WWEs. Comments from Tony and Jericho in the early days about being "a challenger brand" were so retarded because its impossible for AEW to beat WWE as AEW is targeting a much smaller potential audience. Tony should have presented themselves as an alternative and been non confrontational but every jumped up two bit company wants to cosplay the Monday Night Wars, and the fake wars always end up with the fake result as the real one. Look at TNA now.
