The presentation of it is cool, I think it might be the best of their matches together. I liked Meiko's last singles match vs Sareee too on the Saree-ism show last year. as they are both spiritually old lady battle grandmas who fight for the old ways. Most "smart" fans only watch what Meltzer tells them to watch and this is just as true for old school joshi fans. Dave and all of those guys were more interested in jacking off to Manami Toyota and everyone sawdusting one another and they all fell off after about 1996 they stopped following it. Most of Meiko's career occured after the period where they stopped watching and by the time the big streaming boom happened in the mid-2010s she'd long since mostly stuck to her own promotion and by about 2020 and working with NXT she spent most of the last few years of her career as at best a part timer.

It's the same reason other big names or otherwise very good wresters from the late '90s and pre-Stardom period are never brought up or mentioned all that much. Momoe Nakanishi, Kaoru Ito, Command Bolshoi, Azumi Hyuga, LCO's run as THE heel team in virtually every joshi promotion. Even the more unsung workhorse types like Toshie Uematsu or Carlos Amano. None of these types really ever got, or have gotten, their due beyond a niche of an already niche fanbase.

Also a lot of joshifags, even the smark ones, are gooners. That Toyota was both attractive and wrestling her style was legitimate boner inducing. The one dark ages wrestler they seemed to pay attention to was Mariko Yoshida who was also attractive. I won't say that Meiko is ugly but she's not traditionally pretty the way someone like Toyota or Mayumi Ozaki were.

Don't listen to Dave and the other old school smarks, Toyota was an upper carder by the mid-'90s but was never really the person in AJW. Bull put the company on her back during the down years after the Crushes retired, Aja and Hokuto were the top stars after her. Toyota was basically on the level of Kyoko Inoue and Yumiko Hotta (but Kyoko and Hotta were more popular) and her actual time at the top was more or less 1996 because Aja vs. Dynamite Kansai was a bigger deal in 1995.
