>>19796937This all started as a sideshow at carnivals. People didn't care about "amateur wrestling" or "Greco-Roman wrestling." They knew "wrestling" as roughhousing out in the yard because that's how people entertained themselves way back in the day before they had television or even radio.
So the carnies had "professional" wrestlers, guys who (supposedly) did it for a living. It might not have been rigged at first but bouts became scripted as time went on because straight up fighting can be kinda boring.
