He started bodybuilding in high school because he wanted to be a wrestler, he roided, lived teetotal around the fucking Kliq playing driver for them, married the boss's daughter, legit is a 'student of the game' to an autistically obsessed level- ultra safe hand in the ring who will finish a match hurt but never stiff anybody, sperg for the old school NWA style to the point he loves snail's pace matches that slow down EVEN MORE.
He's done everything he can all his life to make it to the top. And yet he was never The Guy, ever- the only time he was even close to the designated guy (2002-05) he wasn't The Guy to the fans (whether casuals or autists like him), and he wasn't The Guy to the boys. WWE tanked with him on top, he did everything to try present himself as the GOAT, and it never ever stuck. And he told himself it was because he was unlucky enough to be against 2 generational talents in Rock & Austin, but then along came Cena, and Vince got behind Cena even more than HHH & sure 18-34s hated it but families & kids bought tickets. He was The Guy, just for a different product & audience.
Then along comes Roman, who HHH politics for so at least he can say he picked The Guy. And Roman doesn't get over even with Rock propping him up. It takes cancer, Covid & 5 years of WWE insisting that he's a GOAT while ignoring all the fan rejections & making no sense in kayfabe ("GOAT" title run has screwjob bullshit EVERY defence but he's treated like a destroyer not a paper tiger). But hey, THIS works.
But HHH still seethes, because if it worked for Roman, why not him? So along comes Cody, with momentum, and HHH backs him to say he picked the NEXT Guy. And 2 years on, his booking has fumbled it. Because HHH has never had It in any capacity as a performer or booker. And he knows it.
