>>19840034I hate this backward-looking pile of shit so much. It makes me so angry thinking of what an opportunity they wasted. 2004/2005 was a pivotal period in wrestling The Attitude era boom had died, but fresh new main eventers were starting to become popular after the success of wrestlers like John Cena, Batista and the late Eddie Guerrero. WWE had a unique opportunity to take the corpse of the genre into brand new territories. WWE contemporaries like TNA and ROH started booking matches that were unrecognizable as wrestling had been before and, though it confused the hell out of fans at the time, is still relevant and influential 20 years later.
WWE revivial of ECW, on the other hand, took the safest route possible and went back to their 1990's “roots”. The result is a critically acclaimed turd full of obese smark favorites that challenges and offends exactly nobody and could just as easily have been made in 1985 as 1995. ECW wasn’t a bad promotion in it's day, so to speak. They could have done literally ANYTHING at this point in wrestling history and still had an audience. The tragedy is that they made the conscious decision to go “back to the 90's” which is the the ultimate cop-out for a wrestling promotion. Paul Heyman can suck my dick.
