>>19849210phrased a little differently, Tony hates when anything other than in-ring work gets over. Entrances, crowd chants, set designs, promos, interviews, catch phrases, taunts, managers, announcers, he hates all of it and does everything he can to systematically undermine it.
Tony cares about two things only:
- in ring wrestling
- glorifying the name AEW
That's it. That's why the emphasis of 90% of stories is fighting for the honor of AEW by being the best wrestler. Any heel in the company, no matter how much wicked shit they've done, can flip the switch with one lone promo proclaiming they're fighting for the honor of AEW professional wrestling.
"And then the bell rings" isn't just some sparky shit said on X, it's the entire ethos of everything Tony stands for. It's why Collision today is about as close as you can get to a VHS tape of matches with all the entrances, promos, everything stripped out. The bare minimum stuff is only included so the show doesn't completely fall off a cliff and get cancelled, he'd get rid of it all if he could.
