They let more people use their real names back in RA and PG days when they were the only big name in town. However as soon as AEW launched they have become far more strict about only using WWE names.
Like Brian Pillman Jr. being Lexis King. Or Bron Steiner being Bron Breakker. Or Mariah May being Blake Monroe. It's all about having the trademark to their names.
