the commentary team and some wrestlers still refer to it as the men's world championship. I don't see the big deal since there's a women's world title.
remember when WWE removed genders from the world titles for a few weeks? that shit was very confusing. refering to men and women's separate divisions in the championship title makes sense.

Not the anon you're replying to and I think you're entirely right. My only issue is that's not why Hangman was calling it that. He was just doing more virtue signaling bullshit to pander. How about instead of needlessly referring to it as the men's world title out of context, just call the women's one the world title as well without the women's label prefacing it. That would actually be the equality he thinks he's offering. Obviously you need to differentiate them at times which is where the men's and women's part comes in handy. But Toni or Kris or whoever shouldn't have to cut promos calling theirs "the women's world championship" as if there's any confusion on what belt they mean

It's a sports thing. There are no men's divisions; there's no actual rule in, say, the NBA that says women can't compete. Whereas the women's leagues are completely segregated from the men. And everyone universally recognizes that any women's world championship is lesser-than in terms of competition. Hence world champion, and women's world champion.

Because if you're running down a list of titles you'd have duplicates otherwise. This is the one thing I cannot forgive Hangman for, being such a spineless bitchboy.
The AEW world championship is referred to as such because it's the top title in the company regardless if there's a female equivalent.
It's the top title and shouldn't ever be made to feel like anything less, by calling it the "men's world title" you are actively devaluing it and making it look like just one of the 2 top titles in the company when it should be the top title regardless of any genders.
