To me the most obvious thing is that wrestling somewhat disappeared from the normie sphere and became more of a nerdy thing. Among that group, there are more liberal-minded people and also autists who are very much into the lgbt-stuff and antiracism etc politics.
I would also question the notion that wrestlers were particularly racist back in the day. Considering the fact that foreigners been always part of the business, I'd wager that they were less racist than the average person.
