Good thread (for once).
I’ve been on the “Fatal 4-Way” train for awhile now, because they’ve clear been setting up 4 guys at the top and all the WM promos have openly ended with the tagline of “it’s anybody’s game.”
But that said, I still think they could effectively go a number of directions and it would make sense.
They COULD put the belt back on Cody this week and do Cody v Orton at WM. That would make sense and be an entertaining face v face match. I think Orton would need to win, though, because it advances both their stories more. If Cody beats Orton to DEFEND the title, that doesn’t do anything for either of them.
In that case, you’d do Drew v Fatu on the undercard, and that’d make sense too.
They COULD keep the belt on Drew this week and just stick with Drew v Orton at WM. You could book either of them to win that, and it’d be fine. If they want to keep building up Drew (like they’re doing with Gunther, for instance), then you book Drew to prevent Randy from getting #15, possibly with outside interference (I like the Sami Zayn idea for that). But if you’re done with Drew for awhile, you could book Orton to get #15 at Mania, and the crowd would love it.
In that case, you do Cody v Fatu on the undercard, and that makes sense too.
Point is, there’s a lot of ways they could go with that story, and I think that’s a good thing.
Story aside, I think the key business question is: does TKO care whether Cody Rhodes is (or isn’t) in the “Main Event of Wrestlemania,” given all they’ve poured into him the last 3 years. The answer to that question will determine all this.
