Kidney failure usually gives you all sorts of problems with infections. He's probably also diabetic, and it's not uncommon for them to just keep having to amputate more and more. My wife's dad just had his hand amputated after getting like a finger cut off every year, due to just constant infections as a result of diabetic kidney failure.

Kidney failure that's why he's on dialysis. I'm not 100% sure but it's probably diabetes related yeah. Wounds stop healing well when your kidneys are bad so if you get a cut it just won't heal and it compromises your immune system having a constant wound its fighting plus being on dialysis means he's already in an immunocomprised state.
