2004 was an anti dimes year with an abysmal roster. which is also why benoit was champ in the first place. and why a green as shit fast tracked orton with no organic demand was also given the belt. all the big wcw and wwf stars had left and nobody wanted to see these shitty champions. we went from steiner goldberg etc to this total crap within a year

Lol no. All the talent was in the midcard but WWE refused to work a main event angle without HHH or HBK involved. 2003/2004 RAW had the BEST Intercontinental championship division in history.

And, why try and create 2 champions in 1 year?
Benoit never had a solid 1v1 fight for the championship. Both backlash and wm20 was a triple threat cause they thought he couldnt pull viewers.
They should have given him more of a chance, instead of just betting on a new guy like orton who has years ahead of him

As I said before in this thread, the midcard title scene was way more interesting on RAW than the WHC.

You're looking at PPV's but forgetting that most of the Raws were about HHH and his boyfriend feuding. And the Vengeance match was about fucking Eugene more than Benoit. There's a reason as soon as he drops the shit, it goes back to HHH again.

Also the heel side was fucking thin. They should've just had Edge come back as a heel. He's like another HHH, where whenever he's a face, it wears thing after like two weeks and people rather boo him instead.
