Like Roman vs Cena at No Mercy, the whole storyline to that was obviously Roman being the new face of WWE, but Cena still being that top guy regardless, so it was to show who was better.
But Edge vs Styles wouldn't make sense if it was Face vs Face. you need a heel here. it's literally two older men that want a mania match and storyline wise, Styles probably thought he was gonna get a friendly 1 on 1 until Edge insulted him, then obviously attacked him lol.

Do you see any problems here? I don't. Wrestling should be enjoyed as a soap opera type of thing. With Edge being that much of an asshole, ultimately, it will bring the power within AJ to overcome the bad guy. The crowd cheer and the end. Classic wrestling formula.

Edge is always a heel. Edge has not been a face since he made the switch in 2005/6. To me edge as a babyface has always been just edge in waiting. If things go his way he would love to be the good guy but ultimately edge is a bad guy. One incapable of truly ever becoming and staying good. From a kayfabe standpoint at least
