Is it just me or does the crowd feel different back then compared to now? I'm a zoomer and watching pic related for the first time and I don't know how exactly to describe it but the crowd just feels more authentic in their enjoyment. Hogan immediately pushes Rock back at the start and the way the crowd reacted just had a sort of...energy to it.

Those fans grew up watching golden age WWF and then experienced the attitude era. It was an ultimate dream match for them and showed them rejecting the star of their adulthood for their childhood hero. The modern equivalent is Reigns vs Cena which is the top star of a shit era vs the top star of a marginally less shit era. Any modern WWE fan under 30 has spent most of their time as a fan watching a crap company. I don't even know why they do it.

It was very different, and so much WWF/WWE in the 90s and even in the 2000s in some cases might as well have been in another dimension. You look at the show today and then reflect back on the past, it doesn't even look like the same company at all. Everything from the product, the people, and just culture overall was vastly different. People like to point at one specific thing (whether it be social media or technology) for being the cause of it changing for the worst.... I personally however think it's the combination of all it being the cause.

Accurate, but really, the biggest difference is that back then you had mostly normal people actually buying into the product and being part of it, instead of just a smark minority being dicks about "work rate" and "muh stars"

a million different reasons why but yeah it was different. off the top of my head, and others have pointed it out, you had 2 of the all time greatest draws. you were also in canada where WWE doesn't tour as much as the US. It's Wrestlemania. Society itself was different. I agree with another poster saying that there were more average people attending, but the product was also cooler than it is now.
