>>4757553Just taper off slowly if you are at or near dependency. Give yourself 10-12 days and drink 5-10% less alcohol each day or so. Use stuff you don’t like/is unpleasant to taper, like lukewarm beers. Once you are no longer dependent (if you in fact are) then it’s really about breaking free from your habits. Change up your routine, etc.
Then down the line if you want to drink practice habits that regulate your intake. For example I mostly drink light beer because it’s almost impossible to get tanked on it. If I want booze or it’s a special occasion I’ll just buy a half pint or a pint at most or bring a set amt of cash to the bar and leave my plastic at home. When you go several months or years drinking this way the appeal to get wasted diminishes considerably and your ability to function in social situations becomes much easier.
Drinking is fun until it isn’t and I don’t buy into this nonsense that it’s beyond the control of certain ppl to never be able to do it responsibly. Old habits die hard and all but that’s really a battle of the mind and spirit.
