There was hope. Dolph Ziggler had money in the bank and was totally the next Shawn Michaels when he cashes in, The shield was new, everyone was behind Byran, Undertaker didn't get exposed as an old man from a bygone era yet, Lesnar didn't spam suplex suplex F5 until that summerslam match with Cena. I wouldn't say the future was bright, but a new dawn was upon us and there were stars. Fast forward to 2022 and nearly every NXT experiment has been a shitter.

The authority was fine. What bothered me was how they'd play both face and heel incoherently. I think it's because they were trying to use "best for business" to make themselves morally grey, but it didn't work. I remember them doing some gauntlet match where the shield as a group would beat up everyone in the lockerroom one at a time and HHH randomly came and shut it down mid-match with zero closure. He was yellling at whoever was GM at the time about how it's "not how to get people to like you."
