>“Absolutely, that’s one thing that was cool about AEW,” he said on the creative freedom. “They kind of just gave you a direction and then let you do what you want to do. So, we were definitely involved with everything with that, and talking with Andrade. I wouldn’t help him with his matches, because that was him. But definitely promos and backstage stuff, I would say, ‘hey, try this, don’t do that, let’s go this route.’ He was great to work with.” >“WWE is just a different animal, man,” Chavo said. “Sometimes you hit, and sometimes you don’t. Sometimes Vince wants to put the machine behind you, and sometimes he doesn’t. Who knows? Even when we were there they would let go of these guys that I saw money in, and then keep guys that sometimes saw that it was more of a stretch. You’re kind of like, ‘What? That doesn’t really make sense, what is this?’” >“In WWE the producers, the agents, they really got involved in your matches. In AEW, they kind of let you do your own thing,” he revealed. “So, it’s almost like we need a happy medium. In WWE they micromanage you at times, and in AEW they didn’t do enough, I felt. I felt they really need to help a lot of the young guys just put things in the right spots. >“These guys are such talented wrestlers and such talented athletes, but sometimes it’s a spot fest. You’ve seen it, it’s just doing spots, and spots, just to do a spot. You know, just because you can do a backflip doesn’t mean you should do a backflip. I think that they need help in that.”

>>4834128 yawn. this isn't true. the bucks got better reactions during their match at revolution than punk. and that's with punk both gigging and using the dog collar gimmick vs a "regular" bucks match. and the biggest pop in the punk match had very little to do with punk. it was wardlow turning, which aew had built for years and is not something you can do every match.
>>4834178 wrestling's never looked like a real fight you idiot mark. as for it being more niche, that's on the largest promotion, wwe. they work a boring, conservative style so your narrative is utter garbage and you're a retard for trying to push it.

Chavo is 100% right. In the Territories and even the 90s agents helped younger wrestlers put up matches. Not micromanage them but teach them how to call a match and how to listen to a crowd and change accordingly regardless of what you planned to do. Young wrestlers always wanted to do everything they could to get over. Older wrestlers always told younger ones to slow down. Trust me it always been this way. The problem was when WWE became the only game in town it broke the lineage of territories where wrestling tradition was imparted which is why we have so many spot monkeys because there wasn't old veterans helping the younger wrestlers how to get over. But in WWE land due to Vince being a control freak didn't let his Vets teach the younger wrestlers how to put matches together and started micromanaging everything. In the old days it was up to the wrestlers and the Veteran in the ring call the action while the younger learned. AEW has a ton of veterans as agents. Tony should give those vets power to reign in the younger wrestlers and teach them how to get over. It's in Tony's best interest to have his wrestlers know how to get over without relying on spots because too many spots can shorten the life of his talent. Hell look what happened to Big E. Even in WWE land one wrong spot can end the life or at least career of a wrestler. Tony should not be letting his guys go out there and do w/e. As the owner he should be the voice of reason and reign them in a little with the help of the agents. Not micromanage them obviously cause he ain't a wrestler but tell them, guys go out there and get over but don't kill yourselves.

>>4835195 >Tony should give those vets power to reign in the younger wrestlers and teach them how to get over. Dean malenko and jerry lynn cant teach promos which is how you get over in American pro wrestling. Arn always needed the horsemen, dustin was paraded with mutiple gimmicks. Jake probably is the closest but he has so many health issues.

Corny says the same thing about WWE and AEW every week and he's right. One chairshot at the right time can get a far better reaction than peppering a guy 20 times with a kendo stick. One power move that ends the match will be more impactful and memorable than 10th twenty-minute false finish-filled match of that week. It's so easy to zone out on spot fests because they're constantly happening. Just like constant DQ finishes in WWE.
Anonymous
>>4835171 So they just go to the opposite side of the spectrum and make everything tongue in cheek and silly so that they can only attract a niche audience instead of attempting to attract mainstream appeal? Sounds like a brilliant idea, what a great Booker/Promoter of the Year
Anonymous
>>4835157 nope. you show a young bucks match to a "casual" crowd, it's more likely to hold their interest than a "proper" wrestling match. they see a 5-minute headlock while some idiot announcer tries to sell the narcolepsy-inducing spectacle as "dominant" and "having poise and composure", about 10-20 seconds in the casuals zone out and starts playing on their smart phone
Anonymous
>>4835278 Maybe AEW needs a vet who is good with promos. Eddie Kingston is a good choice but he still active. He needs a promo guy who is a vet that would be willing to teach younger guys.
