He thought that because he was the top guy in his dad's territory during its absolute dying days he was a main event star and never reflected on the fact that the only two times he was pushed on top it killed both of those companies.
Also instead of just beating guys and burying them he would book every hot babyface to turn heel, join his faction and then be a mook who never cuts another promo or has any airtime besides doing runins or being on screen with Jarrett. Like the Reign of Terror was the absolute shits but imagine if instead of just jobbing out RVD he jobbed to Triple H one week then turned heel for no reason the next one and then cut a promo putting Triple H over. And then it happened again and again.
