For me, it's the clap crowds. The matches don't feel as important and it seems the work has gotten lighter/ lazier without the reactions. Strikes look so lethargic and half-assed most of the time. Maybe it just seems that way because of the quiet crowds.

They exhausted the most interesting matchups on the smallish roster

NJPW was a great alternative to WWE which is why it got popular in the west. AEW didn't just take a lot of their top gaijin, it immediately became a much more accessible alternative to both NJPW and WWE.

AEW matches also often are just instant gratification with movez movez movez and retarded spots. Meanwhile NJPW starts slow and GOATs like Okada can build up to a dropkick for 20 minutes and it's more satisfying than anything you'd see in AEW. It's just a shame all the crowd can do is clap instead of actually pop when the dropkick hits.
