If the company has a shitload of good patents where nobody can directly rip them off and they can be first on the market, then it could pay off long term. If the company doesn't, or another company rips them off or someone does something like upload a free program online, then yeah Tony will have spent tens of millions on upscaling RoH's library, kek, which I hope for his sake is not what happens.

Jap wrestling is all split between TV networks. NJPW World has some matches but are missing a bunch of must see and classics. At best they have a clip of it. It was probably more lucrative to just sell their shows to TV broadcast, opposed to many US promotions supplying their own equipment and recordings.

Not the other guys. I totally agree the tech has become resoundingly better, but the issue and question here is the source material. The Rick video can easily uploaded because it was captured on high quality equipment for the time, so that the level of detail can still be cleaned up. But ROH? They used cheap equipment throughout. And we also don't know the condition of the saved library itself.
