I'm not sure how similar it is for 2K16, but I found that just pausing sometimes and looking up how to do things helps. Also, the showcase mode is nice, because they give you all types of required things you need to do in your match to pass it and pressing pause will actually give you an explanation on how to do each particular thing.
Maybe check out some videos like this as well. I watched this one a few times to try and refresh and drill everything in my head.

Is the story mode stuff fun? 2K19 has a big Showcase feature on Daniel Bryan (who is far from my favorite wrestler), but it is pretty awesome how he tells his story and you play through it. Is there something that would make it worth picking up 2K16 just for story content?
