People enjoy legitimate sports competition or at least the illusion of it, it's a incredibly easy way to add stakes for the viewers because they know there will be winners and losers. Wrestling that's on TV today doesn't make any attempt to even be an illusion of real competition.

All the new drivers coming in and getting good pushes like Tsunoda, Schumacher, Zhou, etc.

The swerves with the constant rules changes keeps you engaged.

Drive to Survive is like their Total Bellas, but with 10 times the effect of brining new viewers in.

F1 also always finds new gimmicks to keep it fresh.

This. To use an even closer analogue, the bigger fights in combat sports will always have some sort of stakes. Rare are the fighters who can draw regardless of opponent. Otherwise, people want to know if a bout is for a title, or furthering some grudge or title contention.

F1 is cool, the first race was really hype. Hope this weekend can carry the momentum. Also F1 grew its popularity by partnering with other companies that already have a strong foothold here. Hardcore F1 fans kind of hate the show, but it did a lot to help grow F1 stateside.
