It's pretty clear to most that the Benoit murders were the result of heavy brain damage, CTE, etc. Are there any other performers you can see falling to similar circumstances? Foley comes to mind, though he seems like he's drifting more towards dementia/alzheimers from his brain damage.

I think a lot of indie guys will either retire in their 30s or get dementia in their 50s desu. Foley didn't even take the kind of bumps Benoit did on a regular basis and he retired from full time stuff when most guys enter their prime now (wasn't he like 33?), it's not comparable.

The problem with Chris was the diving headbutt and the insistence on "putting on a show" regardless of the event and refusing to rest up. He did the diving headbutt off a steel cage once on Raw and a week later was in a hardcore match on PPV. Vince let him do this shit. Dunno why they had all these producers and writers if they let guys do stupid shit that injured them on free TV.

It's not just the CTE, the man was clearly suffering from paranoia, depression and anxiety issues. Try dealing with mental illness when your brain, at its most fundamental level, doesn't work correctly. Most zoomers are on beta blockers for much much less than what Chris likely had.

It was a different mentality. Firstly, no one knew jack shit about CTE compared to what we know now, which still isn't a whole lot. Second, wrestling is supposed to be a work. It's always a risk on some level, yeah, but guys were never doing spots they couldn't execute with a reasonable degree of safety, unless it was a big show. They simply trusted that the boys were probably better off than they actual were, and that's both the fault of the agents and the talent.

part of what it is also, in my opinion, it has to do with Eddie's passing. they revealed that he had a diary in which he wrote to Eddie and that his handwriting became completely legible and he was clearly losing his faculties over time, but he still kept writing to Eddie as though he could hear.
losing Eddie was what pushed him over the edge and what made him into a ticking time bomb, I believe.

Everybody has CTE. Benoit wasn't a unique case he was just one of the first high profile guys to have his brain donated. He wasn't taking chair shots to the head regularly and the diving headbutt was fake. Most living wrestlers and fighters have CTE. The actual effects of CTE are still being debated. Mick has way worse CTE than Benoit. So does Terry Funk. Actual fighters will have way worse CTE. If you scanned Shamrock's brain his CTE would be just as bad if not worse than Benoit's

You people who still think the Benoit murders were inexplicable and the result of some weird brain damage need to do more research instead of just watching a Vice "documentary". They argued all the time, Nancy got a restraining order against him in 2003. Chris couldn't stand her and he didn't want her to take half of his shit like his first wife did. He refused to put Nancy's name on his life insurance which was another cause of arguments

People watch one youtube video on CTE and then try to blame everything on it. I saw people trying to blame the Masvidal thing on CTE the other day lol. Dr Omalu is known for making outlandish statements about his work, like the stupid alzheimer's line people still repeat to this day

Apparently Johnny Grudge was the Benoit’s de facto marriage counselor. They’d get in a huge fight and individually they’d talk it out with Johnny and it would smooth things over. He died like a year or so before the murders.

The truth is they had an abusive relationship. Benoit likely snapped during an argument and killed his wife. Happens all the time unfortunately. Killing his son is where you get more into a psychotic mindset and the CTE thing becomes an interesting theory. The idea that CTE contributed to the murder of Nancy is a complete fallacy though- they had a shitty relationship and both were violent people.
