This shit is subsidized and protected by the government on several levels (government/quasi-government schools, the fed, corporate welfare, etc.). In a true free market environment where everybody from the hood rat to the big CEO has to be concerned about marketing their skills to actual buyers, it'd fall to levels of irrelevance not seen in living memory.
