Austin was cooling off because the creative started to see him as less important after the Invasion ended and they didn't give him anything that made him exciting besides What? promos

I'm talking about post-Invasion specifically here. They pretty much began and ended his face turn at "he acts like Stone Cold again but does What? promos" and didn't think any further. He didn't get exciting angles, he didn't get to inject his passion into his feuds, he was relegated to just a guy they didn't think needed anything more. When the novelty of 'Austin's back!' is over, they needed to keep that momentum going, but they didn't really.

What you guys conveniently forget is that by late 2000 into 2001, Austin surpassed him right back. By 2001 especially Rock was pretty stale.

I was specifically thinking of late 2001 especially, retard. And you're probably half my age.
Rock and Austin were BOTH stale by 2002, which is why the returning heel nWo were getting bigger pops. Austin would have been booed against Hogan too...but I'd still bet you, not to the extent Rock did.

You might not have been aware of the feelings toward Hulk by the time WM 18 rolled around. There was still alot of animosity for signing with WCW, then the pop heat he got for turning heel, and then go-away heat for being a complete fucking tool for years after.

You're partially right. Vince made Rock the top guy over Austin and the result was a 20 year downturn in wrestling that the industry has never recovered from.

Also, Rock got mogged by Austin and Hogan at WM30 both in terms of pop and promo.
