>>5161145Dave loves a very specific version of pro wrestling since at least the late '80s based around athletic high spots (flips, danger, sawdusting, etc.) and stiff strikes because he had his mind blown watching first '80s AJW and then '90s King's Road AJPW so for around 35 years that, to him, is what has qualified as "good wrestling". He likes it because there is, in fact, an embarassment factor and he thinks the cool flips and head drops will impress people and thus make wrestling seem more legitimate.
The problem is that he doesn't really have a clue what makes a good pro wrestling match since they're not based around doing cool shit but being able to effectively tell the story of the match and draw the viewer into that story. Like I feel like the whole appeal and point of fighting spirit spots has been completely watered down when it's twigboy manlets doing them to pop the crowd.
