The first season was fueled by actual interests from the creators.
The second season was directed by Vice due to the first season going over so well, but there was still a lot of shoots to do anyway so it worked out.
Third season, not so lucky. Embellishing lies and omitting truths. It's gone the way of the mark.

I would say that was more the focus of the Plane Ride from Hell episode rather than the other episodes on season three. Even then it wasn't the shows creators going out of their way to try to get people cancelled.

I feel like half of it has to be the backstage politicking Hogan did, and subsequent shoots that all these wrestlers would do, conditioning the hardcore marks to hate Hogan. Plus, he was never considered a "good" wrestler by the workrate mark standards. It's just been years of things like being buried in the Observer that soured that audience on Hogan. Him dropping a recorded n-bomb was basically just validation that he was actually shit all along, in spite of entertaining millions and doing all sorts of outreach for children.
