Sandow should have just done his gimmick with a new name. The reason he didn't work was because he tried to be himself when it was his gimmick that got over, not the man behind it.
Sandow could get over RIGHT NOW in AEW if he showed up and did his old schtick, or even the stunt double gimmick.

He cut this promo in front of a crowd that didn't give a shit, the delivery was awkward and promo itself is just cringe with this midcarder talking about how his debut is gonna change the business and what not and how's he's done with gimmicks (went back to doing the same exact gimmick later)

The crowd not caring makes the promo so much worse. Like they make noise from time to time like they're being held at gunpoint but they couldn't care less, I don't even know where TNA held this event because their loyal smark audience usually cheered for everything especially anti wwe shit.

The problem with Sandow is he didn't have a clue. He didn't know what sold or what got over. Too many idiot fans got into his ears telling him he'd be so over if the WWE didn't keep holding him down. That he'd be mega dimes in another promotion. The problem is those fans didn't have a clue either. A lot of wrestlers are like this, they have surprisingly shit ideas. Remember Rene Dupree? Used to have a great clean cut look, great physique. Left WWE because they wouldn't let him get the tattoos he wanted. Pic related is what he looks like now.

The tattoo was part of it. He did an interview explaining a meeting he had with someone in the company. He wanted to get flame tattoos on his forearms as part of his 'personal branding'. He thought maybe they could make long sleeve shirts replicating the tattoo design and sell it as his merch. He was told it was a dumb idea and he got mad that they weren't receptive of his ideas.

They're never hiring him back because his TNA run proved that Vince was right about the guy not being a main eventer. He got over as just a midcard comedy act and when left to his own devices in TNA he did nothing then went back to his old gimmick.
