Honestly nah he didn't, he spent 7 years in Japan and a few on the indies in-between. He's making his money in WWE. The problem he has is being so overly attached to NXT and lowing his stock and money making potential on the main roster so long now because he's worn his manlet neck out in Paul's vanity promotion. Devitt was the ONLY full time gaijin for years. For a while he was the only gaijin at all. He was the top gaijin and a jr. He made the bullet club. The bullet club is why got the Bucks over. The hype from that group is what got all those guys over. Devitt signing with wwe is what created the nujapanlets and the njpw western expansion. That was the catalyst for the new, annoying new japan bandwagon. Without Devitt starting bullet club and then signing to wwe there would have never been that huge wave of interest in new japan and AEW would have never even have been considered.

The Elite is an off-shoot of the BC and it was essential in the formation of AEW sure, but it's only a part, and Devitt wasn't even the driving force behind that, it was AJ and Omega. Devitt being a beloved babyface turned heel, Devitt signing to wwe and whoever designed the bullet club logo are the key events in setting off the hype that lead to AEW existing.

I get it how its harder to have that view after the Sting incident which I think was Seth's fault, but the Finn spot isn't. Finn was young, and it was on him to catch himself in that spot. That spot is all about the guy taking it knowing where to take the impact like any spot. In the case of Sting, he was older and had less range of motion, so it was on Seth to "place" him better, but with Finn? No. Finn placed his arms wrong, as will happen, and didn't distribute the impact correctly.
