Its probably because Bret can't remember past the Goldberg concussion. The shit afterwards is what did the most damage. Maybe he doesn't want to bury Funk either so Goldberg is a more palatable guy to the smarks.

He concussed himself, probably didn't remember the rest of the match. Watched the match back, saw the kick and figured that's what did it. But by that point he was already out of his feet which would also explain why he didn't get his hands up for that same kick.
