They spent a month chilling on the beach getting high and playing volleyball with random chicks and Hogan more or less said "if you hit it big this is what your life will be like". This proved to be a much more effective way to win over a 20 year old than sending lawyers to his parent's house to try and negotiate a contract. Giant also credits him with helping get a huge contract from the outset.
Looking at how the WWF used guys around that time frame and how he was used later on, I think it's safe to say Paul Wight would have been on TV for a year and then never seen again like all of the other "replacement Andres" they tried to sign.
