Anyone can write a show to end on a cliffhanger. Look at the angles and the storylines. Russo's ideas were mostly shit. The Attitude Era worked because of talent. Just as Hogan's superstardom made the people accepting of some of the cartoonist antics in WWF during his run, Austin's superstardom did the same for Russo's stupidity.

Well apparently nobody has been able to do so since early 2000s. Russo wrote entertaining television that even casuals could give a shit about pro wrestling because the show had a lot more going on than just overly long matches.

I just miss swerves in general. I don't care who wrote them.
WWE has such random schizophrenic character decisions that nothing anyone does can come as an actual shock, and AEW telegraphs the hell out of everything that matters enough to actually get invested in.
Maybe swerves were always obvious and I only didn't notice because I was younger, but I miss being genuinely shocked by something happening on a wrestling show.
