WWE was being retarded and wanted more control in their relationship.
Bryan probably would've stayed if WWE actually came up with a deal that NJPW liked.

I used to like him but after I stopped being a fan of wrestling and have now seen that he never moved the needle for AEW at all I could care less. This idiot should have stayed put in WWE and he could have finished his life in comfort rather than think he's creating masterpieces in a dying industry nobody truly cares for anymore outside of WWE and only during Mania season at most. And even then still most see wrestling as way too cringe today so even WWE is a laughing stock. But at least it is a historically significant enough laughing stock where some sort of dignity can be kept if you work for it.

FFS its easier to just call him a retard fuck it.
