He felt undervalued by WWE, so he helped kickstart AEW and reignited his career.
Three years later, and the AEW thing has run its course for him, but now that he has become a hot commodity in the meantime Vince is paying attention to him. It was Cody's prerogative to leave WWE and it was his prerogative to leave AEW too. He did absolutely nothing wrong.
