Yes, the wet dream of the wrestling fandom is happening: AEW and New Japan are co-hosting Forbidden Door on June 26 in Chicago.
No matches have been announced yet, but New Japan president Takami Ohbari has made it clear that no other promotions will be involved in the event (even though Impact's Chris Bey and the Good Brothers are members of Bullet Club, a New Japan stable), which is a shame, because pretty much every major Western wrestling show nowadays has at least one women's match.
"But hey! At least we will probably get an all-female version!" But here is the problem: If Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling is the other brand involved, that show WILL be horrifically bad. I said this before: besides the occasional banger from Miyu Yamashita, Yuka Sakazaki, Hikari Noa, and Shoko Nakajima, TJPW uses WAY too much comedy to be considered a true joshi promotion. Just imagine Maki Itoh and The Bunny sharing the ring. It will basically be a terrible cartoon episode come to life.
And then there is Stardom - the shooting paradise. The home of absolute assassins who give and take no shit. Syuri, Utami, Giulia, MAYU... the list goes on. These supremely skilled in-ring generals can make five-star magic or better with the AEW roster, and they very well may. I will gladly pay top dollar to watch Hikaru Shida and Syuri put on yet another masterpiece. Nyla Rose and Utami/Maika/Himeka outhossing each other? Or Britt vs. Mayu in a battle of promotional faces? The possibilities are endless.
But if that is not enough, if you attract Stardom, you also attract pretty much the rest of the joshi scene - Ice Ribbon, Seadlinnng, Sendai Girls, Diana, JTO, Colors, and even GATOH FRIGGIN' MOVE
