>>5497429nah shawn gave up his boy bottom for free (and a fake belt)
>>5497448yeah i think the meeting happened in july. i don't think the actual screwjob was planned that far in advance, but it was a tussle between bret and shawn about being the #1 guy, and i think shawn being 8 years younger was a big swaying factor, vince thought he'd get more mileage out of shawn, so bet on shawn. so vince must have assured shawn that he'll get bret to leave and shawn will be his #1 guy. happy with this, shawn came back in time for the summerslam program.
>>5497527an offer only existed because vince told bret to go see what wcw were offering in 96. bret wasnt looking for the money. after dropping the belt to shawn he went on hiatus. if it was just about the money for bret he would have gone to wcw then. but he didnt. they gave him a good offer but he really wanted to stay, even for much less money, so long as it was the best vince could do. vince offered him the same money wcw was offering, but over something like 20 years rather than the 3 that wcw were offering. and bret took it and came back to wwf. he wanted to come back to wwf.
it was only a few months into that contract, in early 97, that vince went to bret and said, look, even this long drawn out 20 year contract (i think it was like 3 years as a full timer, 7 years as a part timer, and then 10 as a non wrestling talent), I can't pay you. Literally
>LOL I LIED EVEN THOUGH I SIGNED THE CONTRACT, I CAN'T FULFIL IT, I CAN'T EVEN PAY YOU THIS SHITTY DEAL, IF YOU LOVE ME AND LOVE WWF AND DON'T WANNA PUT US OUT OF BUSINESS, THEN PLEASE GO TO WCW AGAIN AND SEE WHAT THEYRE OFFERING AND MAYBE TAKE IT PLEASE LOLVince pushed him to negotiate with WCW again, while the Bret-Shawn tensions were simmering. If Shawn had permanently fucked off then t wouldnt have mattered so much because Vince could have kept Bret and lost Shawn + salary instead. But ultimately he banked on Shawn, forced Bret out, and screwed him on the way out
