Show him Cena, Seff and Bork Rumble 2014. Good match and everyone recognizes Cena, and possibly brock so it won't just be some literal who's to him besides Seff. Multi-man ladder matches are the way to go. As others mentioned, the classic TLC matches are great picks.
I personally go for the first MITB at Mania 21, though.

You're half right, but not for the reasons you think.
Showing a non-wrestling fan an old match is risky because, while the back catalogue exists, it's not representative of what wrestling is today. WM17 has a very specific context that elevates it from great to iconic, and removing it from that context creates a strange disconnect when the friend decides he wants to pursue wrestling further and ends up confused when he sees the state of wrestling today.

I ended up showing my friend TLC 2 at WM17. He seemed to like it and he was smiling and laughing, but in a "this is entertaining as hell" way.
I told him that we should watch some more because this, while is it epic. Is not representative of what wresting really is. and he agreed :).
