It became very formulaic
Tony took full control
No longer car crash kino segments with unexpected twists and turns
Crowds got consistently worse in 2021 full of WHAT chants and other bored WWE fans who don't give a shit about AEW showing up
Tony books slowly and feuds/segments do not intersect with each other leading to a formulaic conveyer belt of isolated segments
Tony spending way too may resources trying to get over new stars like Garcia, Dante etc. at the expense of veterans that people are excited about

A lot of early AEW kino was the result of giving Jericho and his "sports entertainment" ideas free reign, which was a good idea.

Good points. Biggest problem for me is the lack of an organic feel and progression, feels like everything is railroaded and nothing can just spontaneously happen right now, which was what made early AEW exciting.
Hopefully they change something up soon, and I don't mean Punk winning to lose to MJF to lose to Wardlow, I don't want to sit through another year of telegraphed results and storylines everyone already knows the ending to.

Tony in the past didn’t let everyone bleed every week, he didn’t let everyone do gimmick matches every week. It seemed like he was chasing a more traditional style pro wrestling mixed with some puroresu and lucha.
Now? It’s constant blood and high spots every god damn week. Nothing feels special anymore

The last thing they tried to do that fits this is when they shut the lights off and that 8ft pajeet was in the ring, that everybody shat on.
I still think AEW is good, but I think they need to work harder on making their show less predictable. They need to carny the fans way way harder and make them not know what's going on, not know where things are heading, not know people's intentions. More mystery and unexplained things that keep people guessing. (and maybe more Russo swerves)

Also it is legitimate to say that the original high of AEW has worn off. If you go back and rewatch those early AEW events, the poolside press conference and the parking lot one, the level of hope, excitement and wonder people had was sky high, that feeling is no longer there with AEW. There's no longer a feeling of "they could do anything! anything might happen!"
I don't think it's possible they could have sustained that feeling tbqh. Also parasites like CM Punk came along to steal the heat for themselves as well.

It's generally better, but right now specifically the pacing is weird. JAS vs Kingston and LAX is ready to have the last promo before the PPV with them getting 2 guys to even it up then call for blood and guts or whatever. But we still have weeks. BCC is in a holding pattern that has to break soon, Wardlow's stuff is on course I suppose. Two more matches for him, then a promo segment. And a few other bits and pieces like HoB and DT being just in stasis till Fenix returned, I get why he wanted to do that, but I don't think it was the best call.

Oh, and the TNT belt has just been a shitshow since Cody left. To the point, I'm fucking thankful that SCORPIO SKY of all people is champion. (And I don't dislike Sammy, I just hated the way he ping-ponged a bunch)

Covid fucked up their trajectory and basically shifted things to where it is now. Allowed them to bring in a lot of new talent plus the “budget cuts” gave them more options. I think once ROH is back it’ll allow him to shift guys over there for good and free up more time.

You don’t need blood ever match to get this over. You can use bandages so that way the heels can work on his ribs for example. You can do stuff like when he cuts promos he’s exhausted . But no it’s blood and not just for him, it’s for everyone else .

Tony's sense of pacing is terrible. He doesn't pull the trigger on anything until it's completely cold and he runs feuds forever. And even though he talks about not doing rematches, he'll randomly decide to run a million rematches in a short period of time for feuds that nobody really cares about.
He has a stacked roster with only four PPVs a year and yet he puts the most dull matches ever on Dynamite. Matches like Christian vs Adam Cole should be happening every week, matches that aren't necessarily a huge deal but that are interesting or intriguing. Like why not decide to do (completely off the top of my head) Brody King vs Adam Page one week? Like yeah, it's not necessarily advancing a particular storyline, but the idea of how those two might match up is intriguing, and it's not like that's ever going to be a future PPV main event or anything.
Also it just feels like the show is booked through a management sim. This feud needs some heat, so I'll have the babyface cut a promo and then the heel will immediately interrupt and that will raise the heat levels 10%! No creativity or thought put into WHY the babyface was going to cut the promo in the first place, just a blatant setup for the heel to interrupt.

The waste of time that was Adam vs Adam again on a RAMPAGE instead of Battle of the Belts was dumb.

You could have easily had a quick feud with the House of Black vs Hangman since Rey Fenix was out.

He's just too resistant to give big matches away on TV and i feel like he wants to save them for when the TV rights come back.
