Part of it is parasocial relationships. Fans watch these vlogs and confuse entertainment for reality. They feel like they know what these people are really like because they watch these "behind the scenes" videos, they read their social media posts and they meet them at events. They don't know that it's a work and just for show. Fuego del Sol and Ethan Page will chat with you at a show...but only because they want to sell you stuff. You show up at their house with stuff to sign and they will call the police unless you happen to be a hot woman.
The other part is that the internet really changed around 2016. Every owner and mod of sites all became extremely left wing, every conversation had to involve politics and anyone who tried to counter it or point out that it was against the rules was banned. I also think various bots got a lot better at being able to copy conversations and can now mimic it without being caught.
And yes, I don't think modern wrestling is very good. It has little in common with the stuff I grew up with. You can't do anything that will offend people, you can't really insult people, every promo is scripted, every show is timed out to the last second and you can't do staple gimmicks like evil foreigners or patriotic wrestlers, you can't have super masculine men and you can't have feminine females without offending someone. So wrestling becomes little more than in-ring work and silly comedy, since those things are rarely offensive.
