Story goes, Dexter got fucked over because John Laurinaitis wanted to fire Roderick Strong (who has apparently been demanding his release ala Mustafa Ali for the last couple of months non-stop) but Vince vetoed this because he knew that Roderick just wanted out so he could go to AEW and reunite the Undisputed Era. So Dexter got fired instead with John Laurinaitis (allegedly) also firing Persia too because Laurinaitis is a simp for Mandy and Mandy apparently was jealous as hell at how Indie and her storylines were more popular than Toxic Attraction. So getting rid of Persia and Dexter allowed Mandy to basically fuck over her biggest rival on NXT.
That said, it's also been rumored that Vince (due to USA Network being hire on Dexter) broke the news of his firing personally to Dexter, to smooth over the bad feelings of being fucked over like he was. Hence Dexter doing the salute thing he did to the portrait of Vince that is floating around on social media.
