Announcement after announcement I've been saying that they need to take this streaming deal if they want to stay afloat. Being exposed to 73 million might not draw 73 million in ratings, but you'll see a massive influx of new viewers young and old. And though I've been laughing at the plunge in viewership over the last month or two, I do want the best for this company in the long run. Just replace Tony with a more experienced veteran as head booker and you've got yourself a goldmine on your hands.

These deals are notoriously slow. We basically knew AEW was negotiating with Turner and was probably gonna wind up on TNT for months before it was officially announced.

People really don't get how cost effective wrestling content is for these networks. 45-55 million for 160 hours of content a year is so insanely fucking dirt cheap without even considering that Dynamite is top 5 in its night every week.

Because they're still in the middle of their previous deal. The reason they got this current deal so quickly was because the initial deal was clearly a prove it deal. The reason people say Q4 2022/Q1 2023 is so important for AEW is because that's really the timeframe when these negotiations tend to happen. The people making TV shows don't like being on the last year of a deal because there's no security for them, and TV Execs don't like having shows on the last year because it gives them more time to negotiate elsewhere, driving up the price.

I feel like if AEW put BoTB/Rampage/PPVs, basically anything that isn't Dynamite on HBO Max, but left Dynamite on TBS, that's the ideal in terms of retaining as large a fanbase as possible. Going all in on a streaming service can make you more money potentially, but you're seriously cutting in to your potential core fanbase. Of course if Discovery decides to offer them like a King's ransom to go all in on HBO Max, then by all means do it.
