r.s.p-w was a Usenet newsgroup. It's heyday (if there is such a thing) was early- to mid- 90s.
Sort of fell off as too many assholes tried to work a gimmick.
But for awhile, it was a great source of match reports. Not just from WWF but from regional promotions. You could follow Portland and Memphis and Smoky Mountain and Mid South and Japan by reading the posted show summaries.
Also a great spot to find and engage in tape trading. From time to time somebody would put together a compilation and trade it. You send a tape and $$ for postage, you get back /pw/ goodness from around the world.

One of the great works that came out of r.s.p-w was a self-published volume of Pro Wrestling Title History. Gary something -- I think -- published it. I've got a copy, somewhere. About an inch thick. Every promotion he could find. Shit load of research. Amazing work of wrestling fandom autism.

The dialog on r.s.p-w, especially in the early days, was high signal, low noise.
5 to 20 posts a day, little to no trolling
Things started going to hell when compuserve opened up the floodgates and let their members post to r.s.p-w.
But you could read all of it in a cup of coffee.
This is back in the days of taping multiple weeks of TV in one night. Great insight into upcoming angles, even title switches, injuries, etc.
Bunch of folks that ended up working in the business were present on r.s.p-w to some extent.

It's really interesting how internet communication has evolved over the years, especially regarding to expressing anger and getting into arguments. We've gotten a lot better at keeping our cards to our chest so as to not expose that we're getting worked into a shoot, and this Barry guy's not doing any of that.
