Doesn't matter. The build up and feud is the most important part of wrestling. Darby and jeff are two characters that could work well together. The match just needs to not be a botched and it doesn't matte what happens as long as they can hit their signature moves.

the point was that the plan is for the current audience and ditching it would only service the much smaller segment of the audience who understands the G1 et al and how those tournaments go.
Plus nobody in AEW can believably do the Yano thing.

i do think AEW should have their own big #1 contender thing that feels like a big deal to win. WWE has the rumble, NJPW has the G1, even Stardom has the 5* GP. AEW should come up with their own format that isn't a rip off any of the above. i think a tournament that follows a similar format to the world cup/euros that takes place over a month or two would work.
